This painting depicts the ceremonial crowning of Hallonis, Prince of Io and heir apparent of the Great Failed Star, Jupiter. Immersed in volcanic fires from the crucibles of Io, he receives power to perform six of the seven royal duties, represented by the hexagon of orbs. Chief amongst these are keeping the planet's empyrean firmament alight and driving back any Shadows that chance to slip through it from the void. The seventh duty—guarding the Princess—is missing, like the Princess herself, who is as yet unknown in the Jovian system and has not appeared for her crowning.
